Whether you’re setting the scene for a night of passion with your lover, or seducing yourself in a self-love session, these twenty sultry tunes will get you in the mood for some sexy times….
Earlier this week, I wrote about how I can’t really be bothered masturbating lately. My libido is still firing, and I frequently find myself getting steamed up, but I have neither the time nor the inclincation to go through the elaborate self-love ritual that I have created for myself over the years.
For a lot of people, myself included, COVID lockdowns and social distancing have had a significant impact on sex, dating, and our ability to spend any quality time with partners who don’t live with us. Forget FaceTime, FFS- I want Face-To-Face time. A bit of Face-To-Tit Time. And definitely some Face-To-Puss Time.
For couples who do live together, while the initial few weeks of lockdown may have been an exciting shag-fest, having to spend the subsequent months living in each others’ pockets means the novelty factor has probably well and truly worn off now.
Let’s face it- 2020 has been a total shit-show and we’re feeling a bit tense. We could all do with a bit of seduction, whether we’re part of a couple or we’re flying solo. So, with that in mind, I‘ve’put together a playlist of some of the sexiest, sultriest and most seductive songs I know…
- Lily Was Here- David A Stewart and Candy Dulfer
When it comes te setting a sensual seduction scene, is there anything better than a bit of sultry jazz saxophone?
2. Everybody Here Wants You- Jeff Buckley
“Everybody Here Wants You”was the only single from Jeff Buckley’s posthumously released 1998 album, “Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk”. Lay back and savour the langorous groove and bewitchingly sensual vocals in this song about longing and desire for one’s lover.
3. I’m On Fire- Bruce Springsteen
Leaving aside how damn erotic the video for this single is, the gently driving rhythm of the song brings to mind a lover on horseback (or behind the wheel of a white T-Bird), cantering his way steadily towards the object of his lust. And with lyrics like, “tell me now, baby, is he good to you/ can he do to you the things that I do?” and “at night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet and a freight train running through the middle of my head/ only you can cool my desire”, “I’m On Fire”, the from The Boss’ classic “Born in the USA” album (1985), is horny as hell!
4. Sexual Healing (or practically anything else by)- Marvin Gaye
Yes, what would a list of sexy songs be without this 1982 classic? Marvin Gaye is in the mood for some lovin’ in this, ahem, seminal track about having the horn and pleading for your lover to bring you some relief. In the longer version of the track contained on the “Midnight Love” album, Marvin adds the lyric “please don’t procrastinate, it’s not good to masturbate”. Well, that’s not true, of course, but Marvin is looking for more than just a quick morning wank here…
5. Sign Your Name- Terence Trent D’Arby
Taken from the 1987 debut album “Introducing the Hardline According To Terence Trent D’Arby, “Sign Your Name” is all about slow kisses and caresses and makin’ sweet, sweet luurrvvv. The sexy snog between Terence (who these days goes by the name Sananda Maitreya) and model/actress Kelly Brennan (who appeared in a few of TTD’s music videos around that time) is beautifully romantic and very sensual indeed.
6. Leave Your Hat On- Joe Cocker
The ultimate strip-tease song, thanks in no short part to Kim Basinger’s performance in 9 1/2 Weeks, “You Can Leave Your Hat On” was written by Randy Newman and originally included on his 1972 album “Sail Away”, but it’s gravel-voiced Joe Cocker’s cover, with it’s cheeky brass backing, that really makes this song hot!
7. Rev It Up — Jerry Harrison
Ex-Talking Head released his second solo album “Casual Gods” in 1988, and the first single to be released from it was “Rev It Up”. Full of jangly porn-film-worthy guitar and saucy lyrics (“steering with her knees, she’s got both hands free/ using cruise control y’ know, reaching over she likes to tease/ she said ride, rev it up, rev it up little boy and ride”), this whole song is one long hot metaphor!
8. Love to Love You, Baby- Donna Summer
This infamously sexy hit from 1970s disco queen Donna Summer is essentially just some heavy breathing, moans and simulated orgasms but, boy oh boy, will it get your toes curling and your undies sizzling!!
9. Cream- Prince
Prince (may he rest in sexy peace) was always a horn-dog, and many of his songs were about getting down, and I don’t mean on the dancefloor (well, unless you’re into that kind of thing)! “Little Red Corvette”, “Darling Nikki”, “Gett Off”, “I Love U in Me”- his whole back catalogue is like one funky porn soundtrack. But, for me, his 1991 track “Cream”, with its double-entenres, sex-moan intro and slinky bass and guitar lines just oozes sex…..
10. Hot Together- Pointer Sisters (or anything by the Pointer Sisters, really)
I listened to a lot of the Pointer Sisters’ music when I was a kid, but it wasn’t until I was older that I realised just how randy many of their songs actually are! This track, “Hot Together”, from the 1986 album of the same name, recounts meeting someone at a party and, as one thing inevitably leads to another, thinking about “taking it home” because “we could be so hot together…” Steamy and very sexy!!
11. Big Love — Fleetwood Mac
A huge comeback for The Mac, “Big Love” was the first single from the massively successful “Tango in the Night” album (1987). The song is an absolute classic and, with all those grunts and gasps as the tempo increases and builds to an orgasmic final crescendo, it’s a must-have track for any sexy playlist.
12. Melt! — Siouxsie and the Banshees
“Melt! My lover, melt!” sings punk/goth Goddess Siouxsie Sioux in 1982’s “Melt!”. It’s moody and full of references to BDSM and kinky sex, such as “handcuffed in lace, blood and sperm”; “sweat carves a screenplay of discipline and devotion”; “pulling away from the funeral of flowers with my hand between your legs”- and I find it almost unbearably erotic.
13. Don’t Stop Swaying- Sophie B Hawkins
Sophie B. Hawkins found huge success in 1992 with “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover” (a track that is worthy of a place on this list itself) and her debut album “Tongues and Tails”. This track, the closing track from the album and B-side to “Damn” sounds like an erotic fairy-tale, not least because of the recitation of a sensual “Hansel and Gretel” story at the song’s closing. And the deep yearning in lyrics like “don’t stop swaying, baby…. when I get lost in the rhythm everything stops hurting”, is so palpable, I swear this song never fails to make me wet!
14. Open- Rhye
I know very little about this band (I have since learned they are a Canadian two-piece), but happened upon their album “Woman” by chance one evening, listened to some samples, and immediately fell in love with their delicate, romantic and erotic music. Lovely for a bit of a cuddle and make out sesh on the sofa.
15. Pomme- Sebastien Tellier (The whole of Tellier’s “Sexuality” album, in fact)
Phew! French singer Sebastien Tellier’s “Sexuality” (released in 2008, and produced by one half of electro-funk gurus, Daft Punk) is a muscial celebration of sex and eroticism. I’ve chosen “Pomme” as an example here, with it’s gasps, shrieks and moans, but, frankly, you could just play the whole 51 minutes of this album and you’d have a perfect, ready-made soundtrack for your sexy-times.
16. Sex (I’m A) — Berlin
With a sizzling hot synthesizer reminiscent of a Giorgio Moroder production, lyrics like “there’s the sound and the smell of love in my mind”, “slip and slide in your wet delight”, “wrap your legs around mine, ride me tonight”, and lead singer, Terri Nunn and vocalist/bass player John Crawford moaning and groaning their way throughout, “Sex (I’m A)” was widely banned in 1983 for its explicit content. The 12" version has an even longer closing aural sex ‘scene’ (I particularly enjoy Crawford breathlessly whispering, “Fuck me, fuck me, fuck me” (around 7.40), followed by the two singers enjoying a simultaneous orgasm), and the song was covered to sultry effect by Lovage on their 2001 album “Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By”. Unnffff!
17. The Rhythm Divine- Yello
Featuring the incomparable Shirley Bassey on vocals, this track by Belgian electronica duo, Yello (remember “Oh Yeah”?) reminds me of smoky jazz clubs, slow dancing and grinding against each other, then going home to enjoy a night of passionate love-making. Hmmm, maybe I’ve given you too much of a glimpse into one of my sexual fantasies here…..
18. Do That To Me One More Time — Captain and Tennille
From the album “Make Your Move” (1979), well, this one speaks for itself, really, doesn’t it?
19. End Come Too Soon — Wild Beasts
From the 2011 album “Smother” by UK indie-pop outfit Wild Beasts, “End Come Too Soon” is an achingly sensual tune lamenting the conclusion of time spent together in erotic pleasure. It’s so sultry and seductive, though, that it may signal not the end, but the beginning of another round! Either way, it’s a lovely track for basking in the afterglow, either in a post-coital snuggle or a satisfied doze after you’ve made beautiful love to yourself.
20. Sex for Breakfast- Christina Aguilera
If seduction has lead to a marathon of sweaty sex and you’ve been at it all night, you’re going to be hungry and in need of some sustenance. But hold your horses! Before you head to the kitchen for a morning fry-up, what better entrée is there than some more sex?
“So hungry for you. Taste me, and I’ll taste you”, sings Christina. “Soon I’m gonna feel your honey drip, my juices start to flow.”
Call me crazy, but I don’t think it’s maple syrup she wants on those pancakes ;)
So there you have it. Twenty sexy songs to set the mood and send your libido into overdrive.
